Fort Peck Dam Interpretive Center and Museum
The Fort Peck Dam Interpretive Center and Museum is located below the Dam between the Power Houses and the downstream campgrounds. The Groundbreaking Ceremony for the Interpretive Center was held August 20, 2001. A scheduled opening date for the building, May 9, 2004, coincides with the Lewis and Clark Bicentennial kickoff.
As you enter the building, there are two large aquariums of native fish species common to both the Missouri River and Fort Peck Lake. Also in the main lobby will be a life size, fleshed-out model of PECK'S REXTM, the tyrannosaur found in the Hell Creek Formation in the badlands of northeastern Montana. A full size cast skeleton of PECK'S REXTM will be in the spacious exhibit hall. Other dinosaur species will make up the remainder of the paleo exhibit. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service also will have displays. The U.S. Corps of Engineers will tell the history of the construction of the Dam.
There is no admission charge for this Class A Visitor Center. We hope you enjoy your visit to Fort Peck, Montana.
